This text represents the progress made in exploring the history of British cinema, providing an account of a dynamic and growing area in film studies. This second edition covers topics such as British silent cinema in the 1920s and spectacle and the "Boy's Own" tradition in British cinema.
Robert Murphy teaches film studies and scriptwriting at De Montfort University. He is the author of Realism and Tinsel (Routledge, 1989), Sixties British Cinema (BFI, 1992), Smash and Grab (Faber & Faber, 1993, and the editor of the first edition of The British Cinema Book (BFI, 1997).
The story is modern in that Sammy's grandmother's condo doesn't allow open flames in the apartments so they are using an electric menorah.
The last page of the book has directions on how to play dreidel.. I particularly liked seeing the original and complete versions, rather than the generally shortened and altered versions in current hymnbooks. She was middle class, but not to Paris' level. For them this volume is probably an excellent addition to thier tech library. highly commendable .. Of course these people were strongly affected by the contact with European civilization, often to the worse. Save fifteen bucks.
